Eleanor – 1965 Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2L

Meet Miss Eleanor — A Classic Ready For a New Journey

There are cars.
And then there are Eleanors.

Miss Eleanor is our 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre, a car that needs no introduction to those who love beautiful machines. From its elegant profile to its smooth aluminium-lined engine bay, this is a sports car that defined the 1960s — and still looks as compelling today as it did when it debuted in Geneva over six decades ago.

The Jaguar E-Type, known as the XKE in North America, was designed with curves more sculptural than functional — yet it married art and performance in a way that few cars before or since have managed. Most famously, Enzo Ferrari himself reportedly called it “the most beautiful car ever made.”

Our Eleanor carries the 4.2 litre inline-six — one of the most beloved engines Jaguar put into the Series 1 run — prized for its torque, smooth delivery, and unmistakable character.

A Colour That Speaks Without a Name

Period Jaguar E-Types came in a wide palette of factory colours — including British Racing Green, Opalescent Silver Grey, Opalescent Dark Green, and Opalescent Gunmetal Grey. inetogether.org

The shade Eleanor wears sits in that tradition: a dark, subtle grey with depth and presence — similar to Jaguar’s Opalescent Gunmetal Grey used on some Series 1 cars. forums.jag-lovers.com It’s not loud. It doesn’t shout. But it conveys confidence: a car that’s been restored and maintained with thought, not spectacle.

More Than a Classic — A Partner for the Road

Eleanor is not a static museum piece. She is a car with purpose — destined for long runs, winding roads, and adventures beyond the ordinary. Before she heads to Spain for her next big rally, there’s work to be done — and the journey of preparation is part of the story.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll be detailing every step of that process:

  • tyres and fitment

  • brake system refresh

  • electrics and warning circuits

  • interiors and mechanisms

  • and finally, a series of test drives

All of it documented, framed, and edited through the lens of real discovery, not just mechanical fixes.

Stay tuned — because with Eleanor, the journey is the point.
